Unilever Australia, the renowned maker of household staples such as Omo and Rexona, has partnered with Clean Up Australia, Cool.org, and Coles to supply free Clean Up Kits and online educational resources to schools in Greater Springfield.
This initiative aims to address the growing environmental concerns among young Australians, with 44% of them identifying the environment as their most pressing issue.
In a significant move to support environmental education, Unilever is donating $150,000 to Clean Up Australia.
This funding will be utilised to update five lesson plans on Cool.org, a platform that aids Australian teachers by providing curriculum-aligned resources focused on real-world issues.
The lesson plans will cover critical topics such as the impact of litter on nature, the concept of a circular economy, the Australasian Recycling Label, and proper waste disposal methods.
Additionally, the donation will enable the distribution of up to 1,000 free Clean Up Kits to schools across the country.
Head of Unilever Australia and New Zealand Nick Bangs emphasised the importance of the initiative.
“From pristine beaches to lush rainforests, Australia has some of the most beautiful landscapes, and we want to keep it that way,” he said.
“Educating our future generation about protecting and conserving the environment will be essential to galvanising a more sustainable future for us all.”
CEO of Cool.org Thea Stinear highlighted the initiative’s educational impact.
“Sustainability education is a vital component of the Australian school curriculum,” she said.
“Through our lesson plans, we aim to make it easier for teachers by equipping them with the knowledge and resources they need to inspire their students.”
Unilever’s generous donation is funded by Coles shoppers in Greater Springfield.
From May 1 to 28, every purchase of participating Unilever products at Coles supermarkets or online will contribute 10 cents towards the $150,000 donation.
This marks the fifth consecutive year of the initiative, which has raised over $400,000 to date, supplying more than 6,000 Clean Up Kits.
To celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, Unilever and Coles are urging teachers in Greater Springfield to register for a free Clean Up Kit and organize a cleanup event.
Schools that participate will have a chance to win one of three $1,000 Coles gift vouchers.
