Springfield Central Library offers a range of activities for children of all ages – helping them get out of the house and become immersed in the library’s educational atmosphere.

GAME ON!

Switch up your afternoons and level up your skills with regular weekly gaming.

Register and attend for your chance to win a portable game console. Prizes drawn every six months.

Registration required. Free.

Day: Every Friday (during school term only)

Ages: 12 years and above


Ipswich Reads – with Alison McLennan

Build a reading fort and join author Alison McLennan as she shares her latest books Calamity Jones: A Flamingo for Christmas and Birdie Lights Up the World

Join Calamity, a brilliant problem solver, and Birdie, a penguin with a big voice, on their exciting adventures.

• Build a fort

• Listen to a story

• Meet the author, Alison McLennan

• Books will be available for purchase

Books and Blocks

Build and boost your child’s love of language through stories and block play. Meet other parents in a caring and supportive environment.

Registration required. Free.

Day: 3rd Thursday of the month

(Thursday, March 21)

Time: 9:30am to 10:15am OR 11am to 11:45am

Location: Level 2 Event Spaces

Ages: 0-5 years with parents and/or carers.

Story Time: Teddy Bears Picnic

Discover the magic of stories and make new friends as we explore a different theme every month.

Have fun with music, movement, stories and rhymes – guaranteed to make you smile.

Registration required. Free.

Day: Every Tuesday* and Friday*

Time: 9:30am to 10am

Location: Event Space

Ages: 0 to 5 years with parents and/or carers

(Please book for every person attending including babies.)

*2nd Friday of the month (i.e. March 8) – in Auslan (Australian sign language), signed by Michaela from Awesome Auslan

*3rd Tuesday of the month (i.e. March 19) – with speech pathologist Alana Frederick from Hello Friend Speech Pathology


Toddler Time: Teddy Bears Picnic

Build language through rhymes, songs, stories and movement with older babies.

As above (Story Time)* but for ages 6 months to 2 years (with parents and/or carers), and running from 10:30am to 11am.

Registration required. Free.

Location: Level 1, Children’s Area

Ages: 6 months to 2 years

(Please book for every person attending including toddlers.)

*Includes monthly Auslan and speech pathology sessions on the same days


Sensitive Story Time

A quiet and calm learning experience – Enjoy a Story Time experience tailored to children with challenges related to sensory processing or exposure to noise and crowds.

Share stories and songs using a visual schedule and sensory resources in a smaller group setting.

(First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with the local council.)

Registration required. Free.

Day: Every second Tuesday

Time: 11:30am to 12:30pm

Ages: 3 to 5 years, with parents and/or carers
