The Hymba Yumba Independent School in Springfield held their annual school leaders badge ceremony last month.
Hymba Yumba is an innovative First Nations school of excellence in Springfield providing the children – known as “jarjum” – the traditions of Australian Indigenous culture in an educational setting.
The ceremony, which took place on February 6, included entertainment from Traditional Owners, a tour of the school, activities for jarjum and parents, food and music.
During the ceremony, HYIS principal Kayla Brady announced jarjum Cienna and Allira as the pair of leaders and presented them with their badges.
The newly appointed School Leaders will spearhead various school activities, including Bynda’s (Assemblies), injecting them with vitality and purpose.
Foundation manager Kate Hassed is excited for the school leaders to form deeper connections with fellow jarjum.
“They will actively contribute to nurturing a strong sense of community cohesion while championing our RESPECTS Principles both within the school walls and beyond,” she said.
“The jarjum will play a key role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment by being actively involved in our Jarjum Representative Council.”
