A much-loved Spring Mountain nurse has been recognised for providing care and support to Mater patients for the past 15 years.
Mater Private Hospital Springfield Medical Rehabilitation Nurse Unit Manager Lisa Warburton received a Mater Long Service Award on Tuesday night for the 15 years she has dedicated to her patients and much-loved nursing team.
“The work culture at Mater has kept me here,” Ms Warburton said.
“I have an amazing nursing team and we are all supportive of each other.
“Mater’s values and missions resonate with me – compassionate care is vital for our patients.”
“Still being able to have a hands-on role in my job while managing a large team keeps me going.”
Ms Warburton worked at Mater Hospital Brisbane before recently taking up a position at Mater Private Hospital Springfield, which opened in 2015.
Ms Warburton said many patients who required rehabilitation before going home were transferred to Mater Private Hospital Springfield from other local facilities.
“Some patients might come with an infection and need intravenous antibiotics, or others may come in deconditioned and need a period of rehabilitation before going home,” she said.
While no two working days are the same, Ms Warburton said caring for patients and making sure they were comfortable were her “top priority”.
Meanwhile, Camira resident Jocelyn Ball was recognised for helping to grow local healthcare services for Springfield residents for the last decade.
Celebrating her 10-year milestone, the Mater Hospital Springfield Stage 2 Project Coordinator said it was wonderful to work with a team that is building a new public hospital for Springfield families.
“Greater Springfield is a wonderful community – it’s where I live, where I work, where my kids go to school and play for local sporting clubs,” Ms Ball said.
“It’s really special knowing that as this community grows, I’m part of a team that is working hard to grow the future healthcare services and ensure the needs of the community will be met.”
A landmark partnership between Mater and State Government, Mater Hospital Springfield Stage 2 is a major expansion of the existing private hospital that will deliver an additional 174 overnight beds for Greater Springfield.
Ms Ball said for the first time, Springfield families will soon have local access to an Emergency Department, an ICU and maternity and birthing services.
Ms Warburton and Ms Ball were among eight Mater Private Hospital Springfield staff members who attended the Long Service Award event at The Princess Theatre in Woolloongabba on May 28.
