Last month, primary and secondary schools from across Ipswich sent their student leaders to the Ipswich City Council chambers to participate in the Parliamentary Civics Program.
As the Speaker of the House of Representatives, I’m passionate about introducing more education about how the Parliament works to kids in our local area.
Ipswich Mayor, Teresa Harding, and I were delighted to engage with kids from all across Ipswich and the surrounding areas as they took up their positions of Mayor and Councillors for the day.
Following the great success of the day, I have proposed to the Mayor that we make this program an annual day and invite even more local schools along to the next one.
Having kids engaged in our democracy makes it stronger for everyone.
