The Ipswich Sports Awards are making a grand return in 2024, ready to shine a spotlight on the exceptional achievements and unwavering dedication of the city’s local sports champions.
Organised by the Ipswich City Council, these prestigious awards recognise the remarkable contributions of athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers who have excelled in their respective sports from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.
Chairperson of the community and sports committee councillor Jacob Madsen highlighted the significance of these awards in acknowledging the efforts and passion of the sporting community.
“Nominations are open now, offering the community a chance to celebrate those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and passion in their sporting pursuits,” Cr Madsen said.
The Ipswich Sports Awards aim to celebrate the entire spectrum of the local sports scene, from emerging talents to seasoned veterans.
“The Ipswich Sports Awards celebrate those who participate in sport across our city and those who make that participation possible,” Cr Madsen said.
With the support of over 60 council sporting facilities hosting more than 150 clubs and organisations, the Ipswich City Council continues to foster a thriving sports community.
The awards categories include:
• Coach of the Year
• Volunteer of the Year
• Team of the Year
• Official of the Year
• Sporting Organisation of the Year
• Masters’ Sportsperson of the Year
• Junior Sportsperson of the Year
• Senior Sportsperson of the Year
Cr Madsen underscored the importance of recognising the excellence of Ipswich locals across a diverse range of sports.
“We look forward to receiving nominations from a wide variety of backgrounds so we can honour the performances of Ipswich’s sporting achievers,” he said.
The community is encouraged to submit nominations by Sunday, August 11, through the Ipswich City Council’s website at Ipswich.qld.gov.au.
The winners will be celebrated at the 2024 Ipswich Sports Awards Ceremony on Monday, November 6.
