Ipswich families will have plenty of options to keep their kids active during the upcoming school holidays, with Ipswich City Council offering 26 free events through its popular Active and Healthy program.
Spread across two weeks, the events aim to engage children and teens of all ages with a range of outdoor activities and sports.
The lineup includes four new Come and Try days at Goodna, Redbank Plains, Riverview and Rosewood, as well as two fresh programs designed specifically for teens.
Councillor Jacob Madsen, Chairperson of Ipswich City Council’s Community and Sport Committee, said the initiative offers something for everyone.
“Council has curated an exciting program of events right across Ipswich to encourage young people of all ages to get active these school holidays,” Cr Madsen said.
“The Come and Try days will provide families with the chance to participate in a variety of games and activities, from touch football to volleyball and lawn games.”
The Come and Try days are a highlight of the program, featuring a community collaboration that includes free barbecues and fruit, thanks to Coles Redbank and local partners such as Gailes Community House, PCYC Ipswich, DrugArm, and the Rosewood Community Centre.
The event caters to toddlers, young children, and teens alike, providing a fun and inclusive environment for families.
Additionally, teens looking for more adventurous activities can participate in two new programs where they can test their skills in parkour and mountain biking.
The four Come and Try days will take place from 9 am to 1 pm at the following locations:
- 17 September 2024: Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve
Featuring boxing, lawn games, hockey, soccer, volleyball, touch football, scooter tricks, and cricket. - 18 September 2024: Hayden Park, Riverview
