Ipswich City Council has unveiled its new structure for the upcoming four-year term, establishing five standing committees and two new sub-committees.

This change reflects the council’s strategic focus on infrastructure and planning amid significant population growth in the city.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding and Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic will participate in all five committees, though Mayor Harding has chosen not to chair any, opting instead to collaborate closely with each committee chair while leading the Ordinary Council Meeting.

Mayor Harding highlighted the diverse expertise within the new council.

“Our new council boasts a broad range of knowledge and experience across various community and business sectors, which is well represented in our new committees,” she said.

“This setup provides a valuable platform for councillors, especially those newly elected, to influence their portfolios and introduce fresh ideas and initiatives. I look forward to closely working with each chair in these new roles as we continue to meet the needs of our growing city.”

The council will also feature two sub-committees: the Regulation Advisory Committee, which will report to the Finance and Governance Committee, and the Advocacy Advisory Committee, reporting to the Economic and Cultural Development Committee.

The first committee meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, June 11.
