A new public hospital under construction in Springfield is set to provide world-class maternity and paediatric services for families in the rapidly growing Greater Springfield area.
The $1 billion Mater Public Hospital Springfield, scheduled to open in 2026, is part of a public-private partnership between Mater and the Queensland Government to address the region’s increasing healthcare needs.
The facility will be integrated with the existing Mater Private Hospital Springfield, offering a combined 228 beds, an Emergency Department, an Intensive Care Unit, and a range of specialist services.
Queensland Health Minister Shannon Fentiman emphasised the importance of the investment, saying it will ensure local families have access to top-quality healthcare close to home.
“All Queenslanders deserve world-class healthcare, closer to home, and this new hospital will provide just that for Springfield families,” Shannon said.
Jordan MP and Queensland Minister for Child Safety Charis Mullen, noted that Springfield’s growing population, particularly the high number of children, makes this investment essential.
“A quarter of Springfield’s population is children aged 14 and younger, so local, high-quality maternity services are critical,” Charis said.
The hospital will be part of the Mater Mothers’ network, Australia’s largest provider of maternity services.
General Manager Suzanne Hawksley outlined the facility’s offerings, which will include six birthing suites, two birthing pools, and 16 neonatal cots.
The paediatrics unit is expected to handle 2,500 admissions annually, addressing conditions such as asthma, pneumonia, and jaundice.
