Young Camira kids were all saying “ahh!” when a local dentist visited their kindy for some lifelong lessons during Dental Health Week earlier this month.
As part of his program of community outreach, Dr Bryan Dubbledam of Robelle Dental Centre had a check-up with Camira Kindergarten on August 2 and 4 to help educate the children at an early age about the importance of dental health and hygiene.
Joining Dr Bryan was assistant Ruth May, who works with him at the clinic. The pair visited the preschool’s Yellow and Green groups.
Together, they taught the children simple but vital information about looking after their teeth that they will carry with them through their lives.
Dr Bryan said the take-home message was the importance of a healthy diet, and what they call the ‘Rule of Twos’: brushing for two minutes, brushing two times a day, and visiting the dentist two times a year.
The kindy staff collectively shared their gratitude. “Thank you Dr Bryan and Miss Ruth for sharing such wonderful information to the children at Camira Kindergarten. We always learn a lot from your visits,” they said.
Dental Health Week is a national oral health awareness initiative of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and occurs at the start of August each year.
The ADA is the peak national body for Australian dentists and provides informational materials for organisations in the health and education industries as well as for families.
Free kid-friendly educational resources are available through the ADA website, including the Watch Your Mouth podcast, and a digital comic book called Guardians of the Gums.
Robelle Dental Centre is a family dental practice located in Springfield Lakes and has cared for thousands of patients since it opened in 2008.
