A 23-year-old man from Southport has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly attempting an armed robbery in South Ripley yesterday, October 29.
Police state that the suspect arrived at a Frankland Street home around 8:30 am, where he allegedly threatened the residents with a handgun.
Shortly afterward, the man reportedly fled the scene in a stolen red Mazda 3.
Later that afternoon, the vehicle was involved in a crash on the Bruce Highway near the Mary River Road overpass in Cooroy.
The single-vehicle accident, which occurred just before 4 pm, saw the Mazda collide with a pole.
Police say the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended soon after.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of items of interest, including ammunition.
The man has since been charged with offences including entering a dwelling with intent, attempted armed robbery, unlicensed driving, driving under the influence, and possession of explosives.
The 23-year-old is scheduled to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, October 30.
