Ipswich and Greater Springfield residents are invited to attend a free Breast Cancer Awareness Month event at the Mater Health Hub, Springfield, on Tuesday, October 1.

The event will feature expert speakers who will provide important information on breast cancer risk factors, early detection, and patient support.

The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Susan Bell, a breast, endocrine, and general surgeon at Mater, will provide a medical overview of breast cancer.

Dr. Bell will address the importance of early detection, family history, genetic predisposition, and the different types of breast cancer.

Also presenting will be Shiralee Bremmer, a breast care nurse from the Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield.

Ms. Bremmer will guide attendees through the patient journey during cancer care, discussing the vital support provided by breast care nurses.

Her presentation will include practical tips on coping with a diagnosis, offering emotional support to loved ones, and the role of cancer care coordinators in managing treatment.

In addition, Mater Health Hub Springfield dietician Leigh Frazer will speak on the role of diet and exercise in reducing cancer risks. She will share practical advice on how nutrition can support the body during treatment and promote overall wellness.

The event will conclude with a panel discussion, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain further insights from the speakers.

The event is scheduled to take place from 12pm at 95 Southern Cross Circuit, Springfield.

RSVPs are essential and can be made by emailing Margaret.Wilson@mater.org.au.
