Named after Alderman Roly Richardson, who represented Goodna on the Ipswich City Council from 1949 to 1952, the park now boasts a range of new amenities designed to cater to visitors of all ages.

The refurbishment includes state-of-the-art playground equipment, exercise facilities, new picnic shelters, five BBQs, and a completely rebuilt toilet block adjacent to the Goodna & Districts Rugby League Football Club.

Division 2 councillor Paul Tully highlighted the park’s scenic views and its appeal as a local hotspot.

“The park overlooks the Brisbane River, the farms at Moggill, and Mount Coot-tha in the distance,” Cr Tully said.

“It’s a superb spot to stop and have a barbecue with the family and it’s only about one minute from the Goodna town centre, so it’s conveniently located for everyone.”

A standout feature of the park is the beloved flying fox, which remains a key attraction for visitors.

Deputy Mayor and Division 2 councillor Nicole Jonic, who has frequently visited the park with her children, expressed her delight at its preservation.

“I’ve been using this park for years with my kids, and I’m glad to see that the flying fox has stayed,” Cr Jonic said.

In addition to the playground and picnic facilities, the park includes a unique play area with canoes for children to enjoy under the shade of trees.”

“There’s entertainment for little kids, and the main park is in the shape of a boat,” Cr Tully explained.

“It looks like a battleship that wouldn’t look out of place in the Brisbane River behind us, it looks amazing.”
