Warrior Boxing Gyms rising star, Kadibia Edwin-Nweze, has clinched the Australasian Cruiserweight Title after a thrilling bout against Liam Callanan on June 8.
The fight, held at Mantra on View in Surfers Paradise, was part of the Saturday Night Fights presented by Jamie Myer Productions.
Kadibia’s journey to the title was anything but conventional, with a fight taking place the night before.
“He fought on Friday and stopped the kid in 30 seconds,” Warrior Boxing owner and coach Johnny Black said.
“The promoter was stoked with the performance and asked if he wanted to fight again the next day for the Australasian belt.”
Despite the short notice, Kadibia and his team assessed the situation and decided to go for it.
The eight-round bout was a gruelling test of endurance and skill.
“He went the distance and took the belt,” Johnny said.
“It was pretty convincing, with two judges scoring it six rounds to two in his favour.”
Reflecting on his win, Kadibia expressed his gratitude to his team and supporters.
“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to fight against a quality fighter for a shot at the Australasian Cruiserweight Title and I am still overwhelmed from having walked away with the belt after eight tough rounds,” he said.
“I want to thank God for His peace and protection, my coach at Warrior Boxing Gym and all my supporters who helped me get through camp prepped and ready to fight.”
Johnny and Kadibia will head back to the gym to prepare to defend the belt and look to strategically plan his next moves.
“We need to keep him grounded and pick the right fights to gain experience,” Johnny said.
“He’s an athletic kid so I am excited to see his future title fights.”
