St Augustine’s College is beaming with pride as three standout athletes have recently achieved remarkable feats on the international sports stage.
Isabela Hoyos Yanez has been selected as part of the Junior Matildas, representing Australia in the Asian Football Confederation U17 Women’s Asian Cup First Round competition last month.
The Junior Matildas secured a commendable fourth place, earning them a spot in the next round scheduled for September.
Isabela expressed her deep honour and gratitude for the opportunity to represent her country.
“Singing the National anthem and putting on the Australian jersey to play football for the country is something that I am very honoured and grateful for,” she said.
Isabela’s dedication to football is evident as she continues to work hard every day, fuelled by her love for the creative aspects of the game.
In another impressive achievement, Holly Leapai has been selected to play on the U16 Samoa Women’s National Team, set to compete in the 2024 U16 Women’s Pre-Qualifier Games in Auckland this June.
Holly spoke passionately about her love for soccer and her pride in representing her heritage.
“The feeling of stepping out onto the football field with my teammates is never a dull moment,” said Holly.
Her excitement is palpable as she describes her favourite moments on the field, particularly when she heads the ball into the net.
Chase Oberle has made waves in the golf world, being selected to play for the Australian team in the prestigious Toyota World Junior Cup in Japan this June.
Chase’s journey in golf has been marked by significant milestones, including competing for the Queensland Team in the Interstate Series in Perth and preparing for the School Sport Australia National Championships in Canberra this August.
“It feels incredible to be selected to represent Queensland and Australia. It makes all the hard work both on and off the golf course worth it,” Chase said.
Chase’s passion for golf is driven by the constant challenge to improve and the joy of meeting new people and playing new courses.
St Augustine’s College celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of Isabela, Holly, and Chase, recognising their hard work and dedication.
The school community eagerly anticipates their future successes and supports them in their sporting journeys.
“We are extremely proud of Isabela, Holly and Chase’s achievements and are very excited for their future in soccer and golf,” a school representative said.
