Children and adults alike enjoyed a full day in their PJs on Friday, 22 July, at The Lakes Early Learning Centre – for a good cause.
The early childhood centre participated in National Pyjama Day to help raise money for foster kids, and centre worker Tallara Ritchie said the children really enjoyed wearing their jammies for the day.
“All the staff were onto it and got quite excited,” Tallara said. “It was a fun day for everyone.”
“The class also did a ‘movie day’ where we combined rooms so that everyone could join in on the fun together! The older kids in the Centre said how much they enjoyed the day’s activities.”
Tallara spearheaded the event and helped bring in a total of $92 for The Pyjama Foundation, which supports children who need foster care.
One person anonymously donated $11 through the website with a note saying, “Sending love and hugs to the kids in care”.
The Lakes Early Learning Centre (ELC) is a family owned and operated child care provider supporting parents and guardians of children aged six weeks to 12 years.
Tallara said some of the kids she looks after currently live in foster homes, which was why she was passionate about helping the Pyjama Foundation.
Foster children often switch homes and schools, which interrupts and adversely affects their learning, the Pyjama Foundation’s website says.
“Without support, poor educational outcomes can lead to disengagement in school, mental health issues, unemployment in the future, and poor life choices.”
Tallara confirmed she plans to organise a Pyjama Day at the centre again next year.
“It builds up our spirit in the community,” she said.
