The Springfield Brumbies Basketball Club held their annual Family Day on Sunday, December 3, honouring the season’s best and also unveiling new jerseys.
The presentation event in particular celebrated the Brumbies’ 15th anniversary, with local dignitaries in attendance for the occasion.
Coaches, referees, supporters, volunteers, committee members, and sponsors were all acknowledged in some capacity during the awards ceremony, with standout players receiving their trophies.
“[A] heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of Brumbies members who joined us today to celebrate 2023,” Springfield Brumbies secretary Megan Low said.
“It’s been another wonderful year for our club and its members as we celebrate our 15th year as the largest basketball club in Ipswich.”
Foundation member Cassie Poulain, whose father was also the first Brumbies president, received the Coach Appreciation Award.
“Cassie has given a lot back to the community, and the sport, on a lot of different levels,” Megan said.
Senior boys coaching coordinator Sean Bailey received this year’s Coach of the Year prize, although he was not present on the day.
Lucy Low took home Junior Member of the Year, and costume performer Jamie Howard (the lovable “Mr Unicorn”) was awarded Volunteer of the Year.
New jerseys
Oxley MP Milton Dick attended the event to present the Brumbies teams with their special new jerseys – a special reversible orange and black design, with Mr Dick having contributed federal funding for the jerseys.
“Well done on a great year of basketball [and] thanks to all the parents and volunteers,” he said.
Jordan MP Charis Mullen also joined the proceedings, and commented on the detail of the street map of Springfield visible on the black side of the jerseys.
“It’s been a massive 2023 for the Brumbies who fielded 35 teams this year, reflecting the growing popularity of basketball in our region,” Ms Mullen said.
“Congratulations on 15 years in our community!”
Early-bird registrations for season 1 2024 are now open (for eligible existing members). Registrations for new and transferring players will open on January 3.
