New Woodcrest student workshops in design stages

The state government is planning to deliver a new Industrial Technology and Design (ITD) facility for Woodcrest State College.

The proposed development will provide the school with new facilities to meet curriculum and extra-curricular needs, and support enrolments.

Some of the proposed facilities include three multi-purpose workshops, an engineering workshop, graphic design studio, staff workroom, and storage room.

ITD subjects incorporate theoretical knowledge with practical application in learning environments that include fixed and portable equipment.

They also use computer applications and a range of materials – wood, metal, plastics, and their related products and accessories.

The planned location of the facility is in the north-eastern wing of the school grounds, facing the Top Oval opposite the WesTEC Trade Training Centre.

Consultation on the planning and design was open through November until Friday, December 1.

Project scope

The proposed development will include:

• Construction of a new ITD facility, including three multi-purpose workshops, storage, graphic design studio, staff workroom, and engineering workshop.

• Relocation of shade structures adjoining the oval, cricket nets, and existing demountable building.

• New covered link access.

• New landscaping.

Next steps

As part of the planning and approval process, the department will consider the traffic, heritage, vegetation, acoustic, and stormwater impacts and mitigations.

The outcomes of these investigations will be used to develop the detailed design of the ITD facility for Woodcrest State College.

Before a final planning decision is made, a second round of community consultation will take place in the coming months outlining further project details, including final height and design.
